“Where liberty dwells, there is my country.” ~Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
This is probably going to irritate a lot of my friends, especially the ones who have told me to settle down, grow up, etc. Others of the patriotic, “love it or leave it” variety, will be shocked that I’m actually taking their advice and leaving. Leaving the Greatest Country in the World? How could I? Why would I?
Simple. It’s no longer the freest country in the world. It hasn’t been in a long time. I’ve just become aware of it in the last two years.
I’ve also come to the conclusion that it’s immoral to support it. It’s bad enough that the Federal Government and the State of Hawai’i think that they own me and can take my income, but it’s appalling what they come up with to waste our resources on. The worst part, however, is the never ending aggression the Federal Government is intent on initiating and maintaining.
In the search for terrorists, the American government is killing innocents and inspiring more terrorists. I in no way condone terrorism but see no difference between innocent lives lost because of terrorism and those killed by the American military. The fact that they were unintended victims gives little comfort to those left behind. It only inspires hatred and more terrorism and violence.
The American government could have gone after the perpetrators but instead chose to invade and occupy countries that were not a threat to us. Instead of going after the perpetrators of 9/11, as Ron Paul called for, America invaded Afghanistan and Iraq.
What is the real reason America is in the Middle East? Who benefits by American forces being there? How are Americans safer by having their troops in military bases around the world and occupying Middle Eastern countries? American foreign policy has made everyday Americans less safe, not safer. Why is this so hard to understand?
I cannot change the actions of the government; I can’t change the opinions of the people, but I can withdraw my support and consent. The best way for me to do that and remain free is to leave the country.

Thomas Paine (1737-1809) “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”
Besides the political reasons, the lifestyle in many countries is just plain saner. Americans are taxed and burdened with overwhelming debt. College graduates begin their life and careers deeply in debt, and now many cannot find employment after graduating. Many families are working two to four jobs in order to maintain the lifestyle they think they ought to have. Others, because they know how useless the government schools are and want their children properly educated, send their children to private schools or home school their children while still having to pay for the corrupt government propaganda mills that the government and masses call schools.
Americans spend their whole time commuting and working and are too exhausted to enjoy life or to even think. The only energy they have left is to sit and watch TV. Perhaps it is planned that way. It doesn’t really matter to me. I do not intend to spend my whole life miserable at a job, paying off debt and taxes. I will not be a serf. I’ve experienced how life is meant to be in Thailand, Mexico and even Spain. Few in American know what life is. They are too busy working for the State and the banks.
A small minority of people are living as PTs (perpetual travelers – permanent tourists). It’s not for everybody, but it’s my way of withdrawing consent and maintaining my freedom.
