On Civil Disobedience: Or What To Do Instead Of Shooting The Bastards

“If the law is of such a nature that it requires you to be an agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law.” ~Henry David Thoreau

“America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.” ~Claire Wolfe

Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862) “There are thousands hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.”

It’s getting bad. Most people know it. Even the sheep are beginning to notice something’s not right. Obama promised change. Those who took a good look at him knew better, but others hoped and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now, only the die-hard followers refuse to accept the obvious.

The Irrelevancy of Congress

Congress is, well Congress. It doesn’t matter which party is in charge, the Constitution is trampled on or ignored. Only Congressman Ron Paul cares about following it one hundred percent of the time, and for that he’s ridiculed or ignored by the leadership and media.

Each year, no matter which party is in charge, our representatives and senators votes on bills they haven’t even bothered to read. Most are unconstitutional, and always they increase the power of the Federal Government. To make matters worse, Congress not only has increased the power of the government, it has foolishly and irresponsibly handed over much of its power to the Presidency. It has, as Congressman Paul said, become irrelevant.

“In the United States there is the stupid party and the evil party. Sometimes the parties get together and do something both stupid and evil. This is called bipartisanship.” ~Unknown

Despite approval ratings of less than ten percent for Congress, people continue to vote for their own incumbent. Some sign petitions. Others write letters telling their representative and senators their views only to get back worthless form letters thanking them for their views. Nothing changes in Washington. Obamacare and the bailouts clearly showed the people how much their views and desires are respected by their representatives.

Letter writing doesn’t help; petitions are ignored; voting gives an illusion of making a difference. People are apathetic, disillusioned, and bitter. Others, like me, are down right furious. Most who want change, including the Tea Partiers, do not want to see violence. No sane American wants violence.

True libertarians hold to the non-aggression axiom that rejects the initiation of aggression. Politicians, bureaucrat, and other government agents, however, should note the word “initiate.” Once the government initiates violence against the people, the people have the right and duty to fight back.

No one, except some in the government (what better excuse for martial law?), wants to reach that point. Instead, we want to fight back without violence. But what can we do?

Study and Learn

First become informed. I recommend three sites: mises.org, lewrockwell.com, and infowars.com. The Ludwig von Mises Institute teaches sound economics. Surprisingly what they teach is not boring. Learning from the Mises Institute will help you see through the idiocy of the politicians and media “experts.” Once you gain a firm grounding, you won’t fall for the empty promises of the politicians. In fact, you’ll see they aren’t promises of benefits at all, but are, instead, chains to control us. Although the government is eating away at our civil liberties, its economics policies are the main ways it’s taking away our freedoms. Our economic ignorance has help the government fool and enslave us for too long.

Infowars is Alex Jones’ news site. He covers current events and what the mainstream media doesn’t cover. If he’s new to you, he may be overwhelming. Listen to him anyway and see if his predictions and analysis aren’t closer to reality than what you see and hear from Fox, CNN, and the other major news outlets. Often what he reports will happen or be confirmed months later.

Lew Rockwell’s site fits in between the Mises Institute and Infowars. His site usually has articles or editorials on current events based on libertarian and Austrian Economic principles.

Liberals and conservatives need to break free of their mindsets and learn what’s really going on. They will find consistent coherent principles of freedom and may in fact learn that they are not the enemies of each other but the victims of a greater enemy intent on establishing complete tyranny.

Become Independent

Besides learning about freedom and economics, start breaking free from all government connections and controls. Protect your privacy, not only from corporations but from the government. Use government services as little as possible. Give them as little information as possible. Don’t even work for the government, unless you plan to be a mole and can disrupt its plans.

Get out of debt now. Protect your wealth. Start learning about buying gold and silver. Use cash instead of debit and credit cards. Let there be no records of your transactions. If you are a customer of a large bank, become a customer of a small local bank or credit union.

Withhold Consent

Étienne de La Boëtie 1530 – 1563

“Obviously there is no need of fighting to overcome this single tyrant, for he is automatically defeated if the country refuses consent to its own enslavement: it is not necessary to deprive him of anything, but simply to give him nothing; there is no need that the country make an effort to do anything for itself provided it does nothing against itself. It is therefore the inhabitants themselves who permit, or, rather, bring about, their own subjection, since by ceasing to submit they would put an end to their servitude. A people enslaves itself, cuts its own throat, when, having a choice between being vassals and being free men, it deserts its liberties and takes on the yoke, gives consent to its own misery, or, rather, apparently welcomes it.” ~Étienne de la Boétie

At the very least, withhold your consent from the government. Don’t cooperate with the bastards, better yet, learn active non-cooperation. Pay as little in taxes as legally possible, or don’t pay at all if you’re willing to leave the country or face jail. It is not our civic duty to pay for the interests on the national debt the bastards incurred. Don’t let the government control your kids. Get them out of public schools. Turn off the TV. Learn to verify information. Assume the government lies one hundred percent of the time and what you see and read on TV and newspapers is propaganda. Even the Internet is a mixture of lies and truth. Confirm, confirm, confirm! Ignore the government. Talk to your neighbors, friends, and family. Spread the word.

Know your rights and don’t beg or plead for them. Anyone who wishes to take them or even bestow them deserves nothing but our contempt. Let them feel it. Realize that those who seek to permit, seek to control. The government serves at our pleasure. It is time to withdraw it. It is our servant, not the master, and it has failed us.

Study and learn, protect your privacy, become independent of the government and major banks, withdraw consent, decide on your line in the sand moment and from that moment on do not comply. As the government attempts to increase it’s power, increase your disobedience.

I will write more about specific things to do as time goes by. Until then start here:
